My Dear Omega Family: I apologize for the delay in getting my annual Holiday Letter out to you – the time just caught up to me and that is my excuse. As I get the chance to sit and reflect on 2025, my mind is drawn to the many different types of service that was rendered by all of you throughout the year. There is a saying that I love which describes service to me: “The highest truth cannot be put into words – therefore, the greatest teacher has nothing to say. He simply gives himself in service.” Now, [...]

My Dear Omega Family: WOW, another year has gone by, and I find myself at my computer reflecting on this past year and trying to figure out how to slow time down – because it literally feels like yesterday that I was writing this letter for the 2023 Christmas Party. This strange phenomenon of time speeding up when you get older is real and I find myself trying to grasp onto and hold close to my heart all the precious moments that make up our lives together. But the inevitable is happening – my hair is getting a little [...]

My Dear Omega Family: Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you! Like many of you, the holiday season of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are my favorite. Ever since I was a little boy this time of year has always felt magical to me. As I consider the reasons why I feel this way during the holiday season, I have come to the conclusion that it is because of three reasons: 1) I get to slow down and just “BE” – and I really do cherish the slower pace, 2) I love to see and feel all [...]

My Dear Omega Family! What a year this has been… Sheesh! As I sit and reflect on all the things that have transpired and all the things that all of us have had to pivot and get used to, it is monumental. 2020 – The year our whole world got turned upside down due to the global pandemic called COVID-19. I am amazed at all the “new normal” practices and phrases that we all have had to get used to – things like 6-foot social distancing, 14-day quarantining, make sure to wear your mask, did you get that Zoom link [...]

My Dear Omega Family! Another year is coming to an end and I am sitting here at my computer listening to peaceful music while I take the time to reflect on each and every one of you and this past year. As I have mentioned many times in past letters, this time of year, when I get to sit down and write this letter to you, has become very sacred to me. I love the process of reflecting and then trying to put into words what I feel my heart wants to say to you. This year the things [...]

MERRY CHRISTMAS 2018 FROM KWANJANGNIM My Dearest Omega Family!  I am absolutely blown away that 2018 is coming to an end and that I find myself sitting at my computer writing this very special letter once again.  Each year as I take the opportunity to sit and reflect and write down my thoughts and feeling towards you, an interesting thing happens.  After 20-30 minutes of reflection and meditation on the events of the year, the words I need to say just come to my mind; this is year is no exception.  In my life I have come to rely on [...]

My Dear Omega Family, I sincerely can’t believe it is that time of year again when I get to sit down and reflect on what happened throughout the year and express my love and gratitude for you.  Each year, when I write this letter to you, I have a tradition… That tradition includes pondering for a while and trying to picture each of you individually and visualize what growth you experienced this past year.  I always find myself amazed at the caliber of people we have here at Omega and I am so blessed to be a part of this [...]

Tournaments & Testings – A Vital Role

TOURNAMENTS: When I was young, I used to LOVE to compete in martial art tournaments!  My favorite thing to compete in was point sparring.  This was back in the day when you weren’t required to wear head gear in a point sparring match (I miss those days).  For your enjoyment, I have included a picture of me in one of my very first tournaments (I’m the white belt on the right – pay no mind to the shaggy, bowl cut). I have some of the best memories from competing in the Boulder Nationals Tournament in the mid-1980’s. Richard's [...]
