Our loving Mom, Nanny, and Shihan, Janice Hope Fulkerson Davis, passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of November 20, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 66 years old.

Jan was born July 14, 1948 in San Bernardino, CA to Roy James and Hope Faith Mitchell Fulkerson. She graduated from Pacific High School then moved to Provo, UT to attend Brigham Young University. While attending BYU, Jan met her future husband, Edwin Reese Davis Jr. After she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, they were married in the Los Angeles Temple, then later settled in Denver, CO to raise their five children. After 16 years of marriage they divorced. In 1987 Jan, along with her five children, moved to Elk Ridge, UT where she lived out the rest of her days.

She worked 23 years for the city of Elk Ridge as the City Recorder, then later promoted to Office Manager. She enjoyed working for the city and cherished the friendships that developed. The years of service that she gave were both generous and loyal. She was presented with the 2014 Citizen of the Year Award just months before she passed. She is irreplaceable and will truly be missed.

Jan was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many callings within the church but loved teaching the young women the most. To have the ability to influence young lives in a spiritual way was something that she held dear to her heart. She loved the church and believed whole heartedly in the plan of salvation. In her last days, she was excited to be reunited with her Savior, Mother, Father, Brother, and dogs, and to be a vital instrument in hastening the work of The Lord on the other side of the veil.

She enjoyed fishing, kayaking, reading books, and traveling. Before she finished college, she moved to New York to work as an international flight attendant for Trans West Airlines. This was a time in her life that she remembered very fondly. She had a great passion for Martial Arts. She took a few karate lessons in college but it became a permanent part of her life when she and her children joined Omega Martial Arts while living in Colorado. The year that Jan moved her family to Utah; she opened a martial arts studio in Payson and became the President of Omega Utah. Through her hard work, dedication to her students, and her love of Martial Arts, Jan attained the rank of 7th degree black belt with the honored title of Shihan. She was a teacher, a coach, a friend, and above all a mentor in life to her family and students. The influence that she has had is unmatched and she will be eternally honored by her family, friends, students, and instructors. Jan’s greatest joy and love in for life always centered around her family. She absolutely loved spending time with her children and 15 grandchildren. Whether it was cheering in the stands at a sporting event, attending a piano recital, or being our Coach at a martial art tournament; she has been and always will be our #1 fan.

Jan is preceded in death by her parents Roy James and Hope Faith Fulkerson, and brother Roy James Fulkerson Jr. She is survived by her brother; Robert (Neta) Fulkerson, her sister; Margaret Nilsson Cook, her five children; Jason (Sandee) Davis, Mattew Davis, Richard (Kim) Davis, Rex Davis, Jami (Corey) Gebhardt, her 15 grandchildren, and her entire Omega family. Heaven just received its newest White Belt, ready to learn and grow at the feet of the True Master!
