8-Week Foundational Program

Build confidence, coordination, and personal safety skills in a structured, age-appropriate martial arts program focused on control, respect, and responsibility — not aggression. Classes are led by black belts in martial arts and an Utah-certified teacher.

Utah Fits All funding accepted (PE / enrichment). Families are responsible to confirm eligibility and submit reimbursement according to Utah Fits All guidelines.

What The Program Is

This 8-week program introduces students to foundational martial arts skills, basic self-defense concepts, and the core values of Taekwondo. Classes are structured,
supervised, and designed to support physical, emotional, and social development. The emphasis is on confidence, self-control, sound judgment, and humility.

What Students Will Learn

Martial Arts Foundations (5–10 Core Skills, Age appropriate)

  • Proper stances and posture
  • Basic punches and kicks
  • Blocking techniques
  • Footwork and balance
  • Simple combinations and coordination drills

These skills build strength, coordination, focus, and body awareness.

SELF DEFENSE FOUNDATIONS (Age-Appropriate)

Self-defense is taught as safety and good judgment, not fighting. Several key elements are reinforced in this foundational class including Situational awareness and personal space, Confident voice and posture, Setting boundaries and seeking help, Basic escape concepts (age-appropriate), and Knowing when to disengage and walk away.

Character & Life Skills (Taekwondo Tenets)

Every class reinforces the core tenets of Taekwondo:

  • Courtesy — showing respect to others
  • Integrity — doing the right thing
  • Perseverance — not giving up when things are hard
  • Self-Control — managing emotions and actions
  • Indomitable Spirit — courage and confidence
  • Humility — strength without ego

These values are practiced through movement, partner work, and reflection.

HOW CLASSES ARE STRUCTURED

Each class includes:

  • Warm-up and movement practice
  • Skill instruction and drills
  • Supervised partner work
  • Self-defense concepts and training
  • Short reflection or discussion

Instruction is adapted by age group to ensure safety and understanding.
